It’s been more than a decade since the Anaheim Ducks took home the Stanley Cup, and they haven’t lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in nearly a decade.
That hasn’t been the case since the team’s return to the playoffs in 2016.
Anaheim has won a Stanley Cup in five of the last six seasons, which is tied for the longest streak of consecutive playoff appearances since the 1967-68 team.
In 2018, Anaheim was on the outside looking in as the top seed in the Pacific Division, and the Ducks faced the St. Louis Blues, the second seed in their division, in the first round.
The Ducks led 2-1 in the opening period before a power play goal by Henrik Sedin tied the game 1-1.
The Blues then scored four straight goals in the final minute of the period to seal a 3-2 victory.
The Blues went on to win the first three games of the series, but a pair of goals by the Blues in the third period kept the Ducks at bay.
Anaheim would eventually win the next four games, including two games in overtime, before winning four in a row to win their fourth straight.
After being eliminated from the playoffs last year, the Ducks are on a two-game winning streak, and their current win streak of nine is tied with the Washington Capitals for the third-longest active streak in the NHL.
They’ve played in three of the past four Stanley Cup Final games, winning all three games.
They’ll try to extend their streak when they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.
The Penguins lead the Eastern Conference by three points, with four games remaining.
The Ducks are a game behind the second-place New York Islanders with three games to play.
