He said: “The key is that this process is very simple, it’s inexpensive, and the only thing that is necessary is the Earth’s resources.”
In a study published in the journal Nature Communications, Miller and his colleagues show that the biofuels process is the most environmentally sustainable way to extract the energy and mineral from plants.
Miller and her colleagues demonstrated that it can produce as much as 2.5 million gallons (10 million liters) of Mana per day, or 100 million cubic meters (3.8 million cubic yards).
Miller and her coauthors suggest that the energy, minerals, and water required to produce Mana can be converted to power from a range of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower.
“This is a promising opportunity for the future of botany,” said Miller.
“It’s very exciting because it’s very possible that the next wave of sustainable biofuel production could be achieved from biofueling.”
